11. veebruaril 2025 alustatakse Kõrgema Kunstikooli Pallas raamatukogus tekstiiliosakonna üliõpilaste kujunduse põhjal valmiva Eesti Raamatu Aasta piltvaiba tikkimist. Esimesed tikkimispisted teevad Vabariigi Presidendi abikaasa Sirje Karis ja tekstiilikunstnik Anu Raud. Edaspidi saavad vaiba valmimisele oma panuse anda huvilised kõikjal Eestis.
Piltvaip “Eesti raamatu 500 aastat” kujutab Eesti raamatu ajaloos tähtsaid sündmusi nii visuaalselt kui ka aastaarvude ja tekstiliste viidetega. Kangale digitrükitehnikas prinditud kujundusega 16,5-meetrise piltvaiba esimesed tikkimispisted tehakse Pallases pidulikul avaüritusel, kus osalevad Sirje Karis, Anu Raud, Krista Aru, Mart Jagomägi, Eesti Rahvakunsti ja Käsitöö Liidu esindajad, Eesti Raamatu Aasta Peakomitee esindajad ning Pallase esindajad. Vaibaga saab tutvuda Pallase raamatukogus ka 12. veebruaril. Edasi rändab piltvaip käesoleva aasta jooksul kõikidesse Eesti maakondadesse ning sealsetes raamatukogudes saavad huvilised vaipa kogukonnaprojektina järjest edasi tikkida.
Mõtte tähistada Eesti raamatu 500-aastast ajalugu piltvaibaga, mille valmimisel saaksid kaasa lüüa kõik eestimaalased, pakkus välja Eesti Raamatu Aasta peakomitee aseesimees Mart Jagomägi. Piltvaibal kujutatud sündmustiku valiku tegid Krista Aru ja Mart Jagomägi ning selle panid visuaalsesse keelde Pallase tekstiiliosakonna tudengid. Tikkimist kureerib ja juhendab Eesti Rahvakunsti ja Käsitöö Liit.
Piltvaiba kujundasid Pallase tekstiiliosakonna IV kursuse tudengid Brigitte Mihkelson, Inger Tammela, Kristiin Kuuslap, Marite Rikkas ja Sofia Lanman ning neid juhendas Marju Roos. Projekti juhtis tekstiiliosakonna juhataja professor Aet Ollisaar.
On February 11, 2025, the embroidery of the Year of the Estonian Book tapestry, based on a design by students of the Department of Textile will begin in the Pallas library. The first stitches will be made by Sirje Karis, spouse of the President of the Republic of Estonia, and textile artist Anu Raud. Thereafter, people across Estonia will have the opportunity to contribute to the completion of the tapestry.
The tapestry “500 Years of the Estonian Book” depicts key events in the history of the Estonian book through visual imagery, as well as dates and textual references. The 16.5-meter-long tapestry, featuring a design digitally printed onto fabric, will be inaugurated with its first stitches at a ceremonial opening event at Pallas. Participants will include Sirje Karis, Anu Raud, Krista Aru, Mart Jagomägi, representatives of the Estonian Folk Art and Craft Union, members of the Year of the Estonian Book steering committee, and representatives of Pallas. The tapestry will also be on display in the Pallas library on February 12. Over the course of the year, it will travel to all counties of Estonia, where it will continue to be embroidered as a community project in local libraries.
The idea of marking 500 years of the Estonian book with a collaboratively created tapestry, to which people across Estonia could contribute, was proposed by Mart Jagomägi, Vice-Chair of the Year of the Estonian Book steering committee. The selection of events depicted on the tapestry was made by Krista Aru and Mart Jagomägi and translated into visual form by students of the Pallas Textile Department. The embroidery process is curated and guided by the Estonian Folk Art and Craft Union.
The tapestry was designed by fourth-year students of the Department of Textile —Brigitte Mihkelson, Inger Tammela, Kristiin Kuuslap, Marite Rikkas, and Sofia Lanman—under the supervision of Marju Roos. The project is led by Professor Aet Ollisaar, Head of the Department of Textile.
