I chose the creation of an Ancient Greek sculpture, specifically the goddess Hecate, as the topic of my final project because I love Greek culture, sculpture, and its beauty. Hecate is the goddess of magic, witchcraft, the guide of crossroads, and the underworld. She was the one people turned to in ancient Greece for solutions to troubling questions.
I first learned about her through various TV shows, where she was called by name when someone sought her help and advice. I also had the opportunity to see her sculpture while visiting Greece.
Looking at the sculpture and knowing her story, I realized that the only person I turn to is my mother. She has always been there for me. I created this sculpture with the hope that, as visitors look at it, they will recognize their own guide when they are at a crossroads — someone who is also a guide and helper in their life.
