21. sajandil, mil domineerib digitaalne meedia, on video kaudu jutuvestmisest saanud suur osa meelelahutusmaailmast. Üheks populaarseks viisiks on videoesseed, mille ülesehitus hõlmab endas kahe erineva suhtlusvormi ühendamist, milleks on video ja essee.
Videoessee eesmärk on toimida kui kriitika vorm, mis kutsub vaatajaskonda ühinema põnevalt õpetlikul viisil, et tuua välja ühiskonna murekohad ning suunata inimesi kaasa mõtlema ja arvamust avaldama. Lõputöö kirjalik osa keskendus videoessee olemusele, ajaloole ja selle loomisele.
Lõputöö praktilise osana valmis videoessee, mis käsitleb sotsiaalmeedia sõltuvust nüüdisaja ühiskonnas. Selle probleemi illustreerimiseks kasutasin 1998. aasta filmi „The Truman Show“.
In the 21st century, with digital media dominating, storytelling through video has become a significant part of the entertainment world. One popular format is the video essay, which combines two different forms of communication: video and essay.
The aim of a video essay is to serve as a form of critique, that invites the audience to join in an excitingly educational way to highlight societal concerns and direct people to think along and express their opinions. The written part of my work focused on the nature, history, and creation of the video essay.
As practical work, I produced a video essay, addressing the issue of social media addiction in contemporary society. To illustrate this problem, I used the 1998 film “The Truman Show”.
